DBFZ Resoure Database

The DBFZ Resource Database contains numerous biogenic residual and waste materials and by-products. Access to diverse resource potentials supports the German bio-economy strategy, i.e. the path towards a sustainable and bio-based economy in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The volume of data covers five dimensions: biogenic resource, estimated parameter (e.g. theoretical or technical biomass potential), space and time (e.g. Saxony 2023) as well as the underlying method.

The database has been developed in close collaboration with the Mobilisation Working Group and the Data Laboratory Working Group.

EU Biomass Potential Atlas

The EU Biomass Potential Atlas currently contains information on the theoretical biomass potential of 13 residues, wastes and by-products. It is presented as an interactive map application where users can filter by biomass, regional level (NUTS 0 to NUTS 3) and year (2010-2020). The map display is complemented by graphs showing time series of the selected biomass and comparisons between freely selectable regions. The expansion of the EU Biomass Potential Atlas to include more biomasses, key information and years is under consideration.

Country Profiles

Our country profiles are introductory datasheets that provide key information on the bio-economic potential of the country analysed, in particular its socio-economic status and biogenic resource base. A wide range of data from a variety of sources (e.g. FAO, World Bank, OECD) is combined with our own collection of calculation factors, such as the ratio of residues to crop yield or biomethane potential. The data is presented clearly and concisely in the form of tables, graphs, maps and additional text fields. It can be used as a decision support tool for further analysis, for example to identify preferred regions or resources of particular interest.
