Chapter 6: Market indicators
The market indicators section provides an overview of existing renewable fuel production facilities and planned projects. Key figures on plant capacities, production volumes, international trade volumes and the use of renewable energy sources are presented by region (Germany, Europe and the world) and by fuel type (e.g. bioethanol, FAME, HVO/HEFA, biomethane, hydrogen, methanol, Fischer-Tropsch and ammonia).

opening the monitoring report in a PDF reader.
The long-term global trend in the transport sector is characterised by a high and rapidly growing demand for energy. Although the use of biofuels has increased fivefold since 1990 to about 3.9 EJ, it can only substitute about 3.5 % of energy demand. Against the background of climate protection and decarbonisation targets for the transport sector, as well as limited renewable resources, it is a policy objective to increase and simultaneously diversify the supply of renewable energy sources for transport. In addition to the already established and commercially available production technologies for biofuels and their increasing adaptation to advanced feedstocks, there is a strong focus on the development of new technologies for the efficient and sustainable provision of renewable fuels based on advanced feedstocks and renewable electricity.
The trend in the available quantities of renewable fuels is shown in the following figure.
