Modell and Data
The BENOPT model
BenOpt is a classic linear energy system optimisation model, widely used in this field of research. The model takes into account raw materials, conversion technologies, vehicle types and detailed demand sectors within the competition. However, it does not take into account infrastructure costs for transport, electricity, heat or hydrogen networks. A defined climate target, in this case a scenario-dependent greenhouse gas emissions budget, must be met as a constraint. The time horizon of the BENOPT model is 31 years from 2020 to 2050 with a flexible time resolution (i.e. up to hourly resolution in the electricity sector and annual resolution in the other sectors). The programming environment used is GAMS in combination with MATLAB.
