Project content

The work plan includes the following research priorities:

• Research into technologies for the sustainable production of insect proteins based on agricultural feedstocks and residues
• Analysing and evaluating various agricultural feedstocks and residues with regard to their suitability as a feed substrate for Hermetia larvae
• Development of feeding strategies to produce desired food criteria in the larvae
• Development of a plant operation assistance system that suggests feeding strategies and plant parameters (temperature, ventilation, etc.) for optimal operation
• Investigations into the usability of residual materials (e.g. residual substrate) and side streams (gases, waste heat) from larval fattening
• Development of technologies for the further processing of hermetia larvae and protein meal after harvesting
• Development of new products from the Hermetia larva and authorisation of Hermetia protein meal as a foodstuff
