Technical Equiment

Technical equipment/Combustion technology center

The combustion pilot plant is operated in cooperation with various working groups and comprises fourteen test stands with separate flue gas systems, controlled heat extraction and supply facilities for technical gases, compressed air and process water. The room height of over 10 meters enables the installation of complete chimney systems, including natural draught chimneys, in the building.

The test beds are further equipped according to the scientific questions, for example with:

  • Full flow dilution tunnel according to EPA
  • Brick chimney with chimney outlet in the building and subsequent measuring section
  • Stove test bench with test corner
  • Boiler test stand with dynamic load acceptance
  • Test bed for assessing emissions from stoves
  • Separator test bed with variable volume flow

An extensive range of measuring equipment with associated calibration technology is available. These include, for example

  • Exhaust gas measuring systems for O2, CO, CO2, NOx, VOC according to the respective reference methods and using FTIR
  • Measuring sets for gravimetric dust concentration determination (total dust, size fractionated)
  • Particle spectrometer (SMPS, ELPI, optical) and particle counter (CPC, optical)
  • Sample preparation equipment (variable partial flow diluters, filters and measuring gas dryers)

The measuring devices are generally available both as stationary devices for use in the technical center and as mobile systems for field tests.
