To achieve global sustainability goals via transformative research, a participatory approach is a crucial prerequisite. Capacity building, knowledge transfer and business modelling are key elements of the work within this research group. Further methods include interviews and focus group discussions.

Analysis of biomass fuels and biogenic residues and wastes used for the conversion processes can be analyzed at the analytic laboratory of the DBFZ. Process simulation of biomass conversion processes is performed using ASPEN.
