The working group has been established with the aim to foster SDG attainment via transformative research in close cooperation with partners and vulnerable groups in the Global South.

Focus topics of the working group:

  • Improvement of soil fertility and its water absorptive capacities via bio-charcoal application after co-composting with organic materials - also as Carbon-Offset projects (Clean Development Mechanism);
  • Adaptation and dissemination of improved stoves - using pyrolysis and top-id updraft principle - for efficient and low emission cooking in rural areas;
  • Facilitation of the (co-)production of bioenergy and digestate for use in biofertilizers based on agricultural residues;
  • Knowledge sharing, upgrading of professional and scientific education, and establishment of laboratory capacities for biobased solutions
