DBFZ recommendations on the EEG amendment

22/05/2020
The Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG) promotes the expansion of renewable electricity generation and, in addition to immediate greenhouse gas savings, contributes to the long-term reduction of costs for a climate-neutral energy system. In addition to wind, solar and other energy sources, biomass is an important pillar of the electricity system, particularly for providing electricity flexibly and independently of the availability of wind and sun.
In view of the upcoming amendment to the EEG, the DBFZ recommends ensuring the continued use of those biomass technologies that can offer relevant added value for the transformation to a climate-neutral energy system in 2050 (bioenergy as a future option). In addition to electricity generation in line with demand, the reduction of greenhouse gases from farm fertilisers, contributions to regional value creation and the possibilities for decentralised coverage of own electricity and heat requirements in rural areas must be taken into account.
