Beike Sumfleth studied Ecotrophology and Environmental and Resource Management at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen. The focus of his studies was on the environmental impacts of food production and the management of natural resources under the conditions of a changing landscape and land use. Since 2018, he has been working as a research associate (PhD student) at the DBFZ in the Applied Sustainability Assessment working group. As part of his PhD thesis, he is developing an integrated assessment framework for sustainability certification of biofuels with low risk of indirect land use change (ILUC). Mr Sumfleth is also involved in national and international research projects that aim to improve the sustainability certification of biomass for energy and material purposes.
