Main topics of the working group
The working group looks at renewable fuels in transport from different perspectives. It focuses on monitoring the market and technological development of renewable fuel systems, identifying areas of application and the associated challenges for renewable fuels, such as infrastructure issues, as well as evaluating the political and legal framework conditions. The techno-economic assessment of fuel options for different vehicle drive systems is also part of the working group's activities. Current information on this is regularly provided in the DBFZ publication Monitoring renewable energies in transport and on the associated website as well as in statements and background papers. For publications, the focus is on the professional, target group-oriented visualisation of information.
The Leipzig Biofuels Expert Talks (generally in German language) are organised by the working group and focus on current topics related to renewable fuels.
One of the working group's technical areas is the production of advanced fuels and fuel precursors using hydrotreatment of biogenic oils. The integration of a new research facility into a process control system for automated data recording and processing, which is currently being developed and set up together with a member of the working group, will be an important milestone. Further research on hydrotreatment includes process development at the biorefineries technical centre and the balancing of the investigated processes. Analysis of the resources used and products obtained is done by established methods in the in-house analytical laboratory.
